With 14,753 wooded acres in the Southwestern section of Worcester County, between Snow Hill and Pocomoke City, the state forest is famous for its stand of loblolly pine and for its cypress swamps which border the Pocomoke River. Pocomoke means black water, and there is good fishing in these waters. The river originates in the Great Cypress Swamp in Delaware and flows southwesterly 45 miles to the Chesapeake Bay.
The park's combination of swamp and upland offers a great variety of plant and animal life, including white dogwood and pink laurel in the spring, river otters and bald eagles, and over 50 species of fish.

Wonderful getaway. Right on the river. Tight spots. Pretty close to neighbors left and right. Very nice well groomed. Only a couple of water access spots. Needs a few more paths. But, if you choose the right spot it’s a straight shot to the water!

The youth group sites (2) in Milburn Landing are large with towering pine trees and ample fire rings set up for patrol cooking. Each site has water also. There is a pier for fishing and a boat launch for small kayaks and canoes. The landing was closed when we went. The whispering pines youth group site is closer to the access road and bath house. Access to the other site is kind of through the first one. Trails need to be cleared, we went in mid April, so still kind of early.

I stayed at the Milburn Landing. Clean and spacious bathhouse. The shower water pressure is great. TV Antenna has 20 channels. Beautiful sunrise if you’re an early riser. Nice dock to off of. Be sure to have a Maryland fishing license with you. Hiliking trail is safe but be on the lookout for snakes; copper head.
